The Positive and The Negative

“Yes darling it does eat away at you & your family & friend. They are all concerned about you. But you need to be positive & change your mind set to positive. Good luck”

How often we see comments like the above exhorting us to be positive, to change how we behave, to act in ways that make others more comfortable. It makes it look easy, uncomplicated and as if we’re being selfish or self-absorbed  if we don’t comply with this demand. Why does everything have to be black and white, negative and positive? What about the grey areas? The places that allow us to experience complexity, to grapple with the difficult questions and to find our own answers and solutions. Why must we be made to feel guilty, to be judged and found lacking?
