Capobiancoland

IMG_7962Although I had already decided not, to I have spent the morning looking at blogs and postings on the shocking events in the life of Veronica Brown. It has been compulsive, because it has been so hard to believe that such a thing can have happened. I seem to have been looking for details that will tell me that justice has been done or that this is in Veronica’s best interests. Nowhere have I been able to find any evidence, but there has been plenty to the contrary.
I know nothing of America’s laws, so make no comment other than that it appears justice has been lacking, even just natural justice, the rightness that tells us in our gut that all will be well. The best interests of this child, who has now become another adoptee when it wasn’t necessary, have not been served. She has been removed from her family and her heritage, made a child of loss and an only child. We can only imagine her loneliness, the depths of her longing for her home and people. If that is not abusive I don’t know what is!
It touches me deeply in that wounded place that recognises and understands the abuse of adoption in other adoptees, whatever their age. I feel the pain, as so many are feeling it, some with tears, some with words, some with anger and some with the hope that the world will now see adoption for what it really is, an unethical, corrupt industry in which lies are par for the course and white privilege and power are supreme.
Veronica, we adult adoptees are thinking of you today and every day. We will be here when you need us. Your journey in the adopted life has begun, nothing can revoke that now, the damage cannot be undone. Be courageous, you have what no adoptee before you has had; a strong group of adult adoptees who know your story, who are behind you and will always be so.
